For all the joy and festivity that the end-of-year holiday season brings
us, there’s one thing we can all agree on — they’re,
at some point or another, very stressful. Between getting gifts, planning
day-of festivities and visiting relatives you only see one a year (possibly
thankfully), There’s a lot to juggle for the month and a half between
the middle of November and New Year’s Day.
Now imagine if you were getting divorced, too.
That’s where this handy list from the Huffington Post comes into
play. Writing for Divorce Magazine, Rosemary Frank lists six of her top
tips for getting through the tough spots for those going through a divorce
during this not-so-merry time. Here are a couple we definitely nodded
our head at.
Trim the Gift List It’s true that when you’re in this position where many people
seem to be fighting you, all you want to do is make them all happy. You
might think that this is a perfect win-win situation — get those
people gifts for the holidays and everything will work out. Wrong. You
need to go the opposite direction and trim the list down to the people
who are most appreciative of your friendship and love. Those are the people
you want to spend this bumpy time with.
Take a Break From the Divorce We get it, you want to get this over with. But not much is going to get
done during the holidays, trust us. Acording to Frank:
“Take some time to revitalize positive feelings of a better life
to come. Do something special to welcome that new future: consider new
career choices, explore new living situations while making no commitments,
reconnect with old friends who drifted away because they never liked your
