Former star wide receiver assaults wife, Basketball Wives' Evelyn Lozada
Now-former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson made an error last week that could cost him everything. After being confronted by his wife of 41 days, Evelyn Lozada, about a receipt for some condoms found in his car, he decided to head butt her. That was the wrong decision for so many reasons, but two have quickly come to pass.
Shortly after the incident in which Johnson was also arrested and booked last Saturday by the Broward County, FL Sheriff's Office on charges of domestic violence, Lozada filed for divorce, noting that she hoped Johnson would "seek the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well." A statement released by her lawyer said, ""Given recent events in my client's life, she has decided to file for divorce and move forward with her life."
That was on a Tuesday, the same day that Johnson was cut by the Miami Dolphins, the team he was trying to catch on with during their pre-season. It was not going well, and this seemed to be the icing on the cake for the team, which was being filmed for the HBO series, Hard Knocks. Johnson's dismissal was filmed for everyone to see. It is not known how Lozada's turn on the hit reality show, VH1's
Basketball Wives, will depict the break-up. However, Johnson is trying to smooth things over on his website before the gossip mill continues its assault on his now tarnished reputation.
"I would like to apologize to everyone for the recent events that have occurred," said Johnson on a post on his website. "I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death."
