Thomas Beattie wants to divorce her wife, but Arizona judge doesn't think the marriage is legit
Thomas Beattie made history and headlines in 2008 when he had sexual reassignment surgery and subsequently became pregnant three times. He says he did it because his wife, Nancy, was infertile, and the result was three healthy children, Susan, Austin and Jensen. However, it seems that the marital bliss between the two women has dissolved because the two are seeking a divorce. However, a judge in Arizona, where the couple lives, doesn't feel that he can grant the divorce because… he doesn't think the marriage of the now-female Beattie is legit.
Beattie claims that Nancy is physically abusive to him and his kids – and they even have it captured on tape. However, the judge is arguing that because Beattie gave birth to their three children, he should be considered a woman, and thus their marriage not valid to begin with.
The judge is allowing Beattie to address the issue, which he is by countering with his passport, which is a US document that shows he is a man. Beattie is currently looking for more documents to file within the time frame the lawyer gave him, after which the judge will make a decision.
We'll keep you posted.
