Charlie Bell is asking for alimony after his ex hits it big on 'Basketball Wives'
What came first—the baller or the show? That's the question in the case between former NBA player Charlie Bell and his estranged wife Kenya. It turns out that the stardom she enjoys thanks to an attempted stabbing (we'll get to that) has led to the former Golden State Warrior asking for alimony as he makes his way through the boot of Europe, playing in the Italian League.
Last year, Kenya attempted to stab Charlie with a box cutter, which caught the eye of the producers of the VH-1 hit reality show, Basketball Wives. Cast this season, Kenya has already proven to be hit out of the box herself, with a starring role on the show and singles—"Choices", "Fly" and "All"—bringing in the cash on iTunes. So much so in fact, the tables have turned in the relationship.
Whereas before Charlie was making the big bucks and supporting Kenya, she is now reportedly making up to $300,000 a year and the estranged husband is looking for a piece of that in the form of an alimony payment. He is now making a paltry $100,000 playing ball in Italy. His argument is that without his fame (and attempted stabbing), she would not be where she is today. Her lawyer has answered his in court saying that she makes nowhere near the amount cited. It will be interesting to see how a court fight over alimony when both parties are making over six-figures plays out.
Do you think that he deserves a piece of her pie? Let us know in the comments.
