Is a Divorce Party for You?

Posted By Demetria Graves || 1-Oct-2012

The queen of divorce parties, Glynda Rhodes, thinks they are!

Your nuptials are marked by a lot of celebrations – the engagement party, bachelor or bachelorette party, wedding party and the honeymoon. But even after all that, it may still not work out, leading to…a divorce party?

Yup, one of the latest trends sweeping the divorce industry is having a big bash to have a clear marker of when you can return to your pre-marriage way of life. Things are burned, drinks are consumed and your friends celebrate your return to independence. However, a lot of people have asked if it's worth it. Why not just have the divorce – isn't that enough? According to Glynda Rhodes, Las Vegas' resident divorce party expert, it definitely isn't.

"We threw a recent house party for a divorcee and her closest friends to help her get through the anguish," Rhodes said. "She burned her wedding dress, burned all her photos and made targets of her ex-husband and the girl he ran off with to shoot paintballs at them," she told me.

"Next time, we burn the dress, the photos, the certificate; I will have an urn to keep the ashes in!"

Rhodes, who noted that she never wanted to do wedding planning, comes from a place of experience. She is currently getting divorced herself, and feels that while marriage is still worth it, she understands that sometime people just grow apart and need a new path in life. Based in Vegas, she believes that it can become the epicenter of the divorce party movement, considering so many bachelor parties and weddings take place there to begin with. She's so excited that she can't wait to have her divorce party.

"I have a bunch of brilliant ideas I want to do," she noted. "I am going through all the court dates and stuff just trying to get mine finalized. My divorce party is going to be of the hook. I can't wait to celebrate mine. I am kind of envious of these girls that they've had theirs already."
