There was a time not so long ago when divorce was a very taboo subject, left to talking about it in hushed tones and only with your best friends (and sometimes not even then). Well, today in our more open-minded society, divorce, while tragic, is a more common topic. However, a couple in Indianapolis is taking to airing their divorce using one of the most visible avenues available, social media—namely Facebook and Twitter.
Jacqueline Buckingham was getting divorced from her husband, former Indianapolis Museum of Art CEO Maxwell Anderson. But instead of a few phone calls to some of her friends, Buckingham decided to tweet and write both a Facebook and blog post about the separation.
"Although a legal marriage bond is behind us," her Facebook missive went, "we are moving forward with new vows as dedicated partners in parenting, committed champions of each other as individuals, and strong supporters of each other's careers, dreams, and life's work." As for Twitter, the 140-character microblogging site, the message was a little bit simpler.
"Hey, we r splitting up #lifenews #divorcing #wantedyoutoknow."
