January Continues to Be a Bad Month for Marriages

Posted By Demetria Graves || 13-Jan-2014

Last week we told you about January 6th being a horrible day for divorces. Well it turns out it lasts all 31 days. According to a new report, the country averages a 10 percent jump every January in divorces and 25 in consultations with divorce attorneys.

Well, what makes the first month of the year such a fertile ground for wanting to ditch the person you just spent one of the most festive times of the year with? It may be just that. Here are some of the main reasons that split the knot as a new year dawns:

The Holidays. It’s no secret that the holidays are a tremendously stressful time for anybody, let alone those in a relationship in peril. The double-whammy of it being a supposedly festive season with everyone around you celebrating, and a time when you’re spending a lot of time around your spouse is what may do you in.

Wanting a Fresh Start. It’s a new year, so new you… right? Well many people believe that and want to reboot their lives. Except there’s one problem – they’re married to someone who’s holding them back from completely reworking their lives.

Tax reasons. Sometimes, it’s as simple as money. Some couples are just waiting for the clock to run out on last year to divorce because their 2013 taxes will take a huge hit if they do it before Dec, 31.

It’s just time. Many couples choose to wait it out till the end of the year before making it official that they’re not longer in love with each other. However, when they get to Jan. 1, they see that nothing’s changed. Whether they thought time alone would heal those wounds is unknown.
