Australian hip-hop star Iggy Azalea is hitting it big in the States, but that has just made the target on her bank account as big as it full. Specifically, her ex-boyfriend — or current husband, depending on who you believe — who's looking to divorce the "Booty" emcee for a piece of her booty.
There might be one problem with his plan, however: she says they've never been married. Texan Hefe Wine (aka Maurice Williams) is saying in court documents that he and Azalea have been common-law married since 2008. In most of the country, that means he's entitled to half of her current booming business.
In Texas, a couple who live together for any amount of time are considered legally married if they agree to be wed and hold themselves out to others as a married couple. Azalea's reps say she never agreed to either of those conditions. Not according to him, however, who said the couple "agreed to be married, holding themselves out as man and wife and began residing together in the state of Texas on or about September 2008."
Wine is asking a court to bar Azalea from selling various assets accumulated during their union. They have previously been at odds over the rights to music she penned while they were together. If a judge recognizes the validity of the marriage then the "Fancy" rapper's music becomes community property and could be split 50/50.
But Azalea isn't having any of it. She says that the move is just a cash grab, and their relationship, romantic or otherwise, only lasted six months. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out.
