Can You Take Back a Divorce? Billionaire Elon Musk Did (Twice)

Posted By The Graves Law Firm || 10-Aug-2015

“I want a divorce!” It’s a phrase people in our office have said often, and it’s usually a done deal. Paperwork gets signed and the end of a marriage begins. Much rarer is the person who yells they want a divorce… then walks it back. When it gets to that point, pretty nasty things may have been said that aren’t as easily wiped away.

But apparently Elon Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO and billionaire, has a soft spot for his current wife, actress Talulah Riley. It’s a story that since January, he’s been in the process of divorcing Riley, and recently called the whole thing off. It might be worthy of a documentary that this isn’t the first time Musk and Riley have reconciled a divorce — except the first one went all the way!

The couple divorced in 2012 after getting married in 2010. This was just after Musk divorced his first wife, novelist Justine Musk, in 2008. He filed for divorce this time in Janurary, and even tweeted out, “It was an amazing four years. I will love you forever. You will make someone very happy one day,” which he deleted. We wonder what changed his mind…

“Canceling a second divorce from Riley might save Musk at least $16 million—that’s the payout he reportedly agreed to with Riley when the couple filed divorce papers on Jan. 1,” according to Quartz.

Ah, maybe that’s it. Those SpaceX rockets aren’t cheap, you know.
