Judge Chides Wealthy Manhattan Couple for Airing Laundry During Divorce

Posted By The Graves Law Firm || 12-Jan-2015

How far would you go to make sure you were going to get what you deserved in a divorce case? Would you air every piece of dirty laundry about your soon-to-be ex-spouse, including… allegations of incontinence?

That is what Christina Di Mauro did when she filed divorce papers in NYC to end their 12-year-old marriage to millionaire investment banker and estranged husband Sage Kelly. Di Mauro alleged that Kelly had got her addicted to cocaine, abusing alcohol, engaging in group sex with his clients, and that he sometimes got so wasted that he would defecate in their bed and on the walls of their houses in New York City and Sag Harbor.

However, the Supreme Court Justice presiding over the case, Matthew Cooper, wasn't too pleased about the allegations. During a recent hearing, he took time out of the proceedings to chastise the couple, noting that it might not hurt them now, but it will hurt their two young daughters in the future.

"(Their) children will forever be able to read allegations about their parents on the Internet as a result of papers provided to the public," Cooper told Kelly and his Di Mauro. "This has been a very upsetting, difficult experience for this court. These innocent children have been caught up in this horrible, horrible fiasco."

For their part, Kelly and Di Mauro weren't fazed by the judge's comments. That day, the couple chatted in a friendly way before the court session and smiled on their way out of court.
