Little Things Can Lower Divorce Stress With Kids

Posted By The Graves Law Firm || 15-Jun-2015

Life is a series of small movements — both positive and negative — that define how we deal with the rest of the world. Positive steps lead to us smiling at the mailman; negative steps have us brooding at the bar. There is one area, however, where the little things aren't appreciated the way they should — divorce.

Many times, divorce has a way of making everyone involved a level of crazed they've never reached before. The overwhelming feeling of one's life changing — whether for the better or not — can really dictate how you act toward everyone, from your kids to the judge presiding over your case. But what if you were able to see the small things that make up a divorce proceeding and use that as a guide for your mood. Huffington Post came up with a few of the ways you can grab certain aspects of divorce and make them your guiding lights. Here are three of our favorites:

Keep records of everything
This may seem like an obvious thing, but for people harried by the situation, their newly manic tendencies may get the best of them. Take copious notes about everything from what your soon-to-be-ex-spouse says about his take on dividing the children to shared expenses.

Change your ex's name in your cellphone to "co-parent."
Not only does this get your ex's name out of your head, but it also helps you remember that your children are a part of this as well. With that in mind, you see your ex differently, and conversations and meetings will possibly be less contentious that they might have been. All because of the kids.

Say "thank you" as much as possible
It may be hard at first, but telling your ex "thank you" will go a long way to creating a bond in your post-divorce life.
