Comedian Chris Rock is known for bringing the funny to the masses. But his latest story has nothing to do with his sense of humor — quite the opposite. It's about his future-ex-wife Malaak Compton-Rock asking for a huge chunk of his estate. And it was all made possible by the sunset clause in his prenuptial agreement with Compton-Rock.
A sunset clause says that after a period of time after the beginning of the marriage the prenup simply self-destructs and the parties are then, simply married, like everyone else. Unfortunately for the funny man, he isn't like everyone else. He's worth an estimated $70 million, and Compton-Rock is coming for every last cent she believes she's owed.
According to the New York Post, the court filings in the case say Compton-Rock deserves a payout "commensurate with the marital standard of living" because of all her child-rearing and charitable endeavors. Compton-Rock spends her free time on the charity circuit. She runs a group called The Angel Rock Project and in 2008 appeared as a judge on the ABC reality show "Oprah's Big Give," where she clinked Champagne glasses with actress Vivica A. Fox and "Sopranos" star Lorraine Bracco.
Maybe there's a change in the future, however. According to a recent interview, Rock said that the divorce left him "sad out of [his] f—king mind." Maybe there's a reconciliation in the future for the Rocks?
